Comorbidity of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder And Alcohol Dependence

Abstract

Aim of the study.  The aim of the research was to examine the extent to which alcohol dependence occurs in comorbidity with PTSD.

Methods. The study included 165 respondents who were hospitalized at the Department of Psychiatry in Osijek. All were diagnosed PTSD. The overall questionnaire was designed for this study, which included information about age, gender, education, psychological problems, the continuum of treatment, and questions about alcohol consumption

Results. In 2004, 14 (22.2%) testees were addicted to alcohol in comorbidity with PTSD. In 2014, 42 (41.2%) of the total of 102 testees had alcohol addiction comorbid with PTSD. 56 (33.9%) out of 165 testees were addicted to alcohol.

Conclusion. The results show that alcohol addiction occurs in 33.9% of testees.
